Post-stapedotomy granulomatous reaction.

چکیده
Since the advent of stapedotomy and its use in the treatment of otosclerosis, a few complications have been reported in the literature. Among them, the granulomatous reaction, described by Harris and Weiss in 1962, is rare. It is an excessive inflammation that forms granulation tissue around the prosthesis and the oval windows. Although the etiology is uncertain, several authors believe that the main cause is a foreign body reaction to the material used in filling the oval windows. The post-stapedotomy incidence is 0.07% and the post-stapedectomy incidence is 0.1%; it generally manifests after surgery as sensorineural dysacusis and vertigo. It may be confirmed by exploratory tympanotomy to visualize granulation tissue around the prosthesis and the oval window in a symptomatic patient.

laseror microdrill-assisted technique may enable better outcomes in terms of intraand post-operative complications as well as of hearing gain as compared with classical stapedotomy technique. Materials and Methods: Eighty-two subjects undergoing primary stapes surgery for otosclerosis were enrolled for this study as having a least pure tone average (PTA) air-bone gap (ABG) of 35 dB. Patients we...

متن کاملUse of Remifentanil for sedo-analgesia in stapedotomy: personal experience.
Stapedotomy for otosclerosis presents particular anaesthesiology demands as the surgeon has to assess functional results during the operation, work with some bleeding, be ensured the collaboration of the patient, and limit the occurrence of intra- and post-operative symptoms (dizziness, nausea, vomiting and pain). Remifentanyl, a micro-opioid selective agonist characterised by short latency and...

OBJECTIVE To compare the hearing and otoacoustic emissions (OAE) outcome of stapedotomy employing 0.4 and 0.6 mm diameter prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 18 patients with otosclerosis participated in a prospective, double-armed, randomized cohort study. All the patients underwent small fenestra drill stapedotomy employing the Causse fluroplastic large loop piston prostheses. The p...
